There is perhaps no more cherished a passage in all

the Old Testament than the story of Abraham offering his son Isaac

upon the sacrificial altar. However, there is perhaps no other

passage that is at the same time so troubling. How could Holy God

make such a demand upon His servant as for Abraham to sacrifice his

only son? While Abraham’s great faith proves his fear of God, it is

not Abraham’s actions which come into focus—it is God’s! We are

again reminded why God must be trusted and obeyed as we are made

aware of God’s ultimate sacrifice.
